ICD10 READY-SET-GO
October 1, 2015 has been a red letter date in all healthcare offices for quite some time. For many years your visit to the doctor (sorry, healthcare provider) has needed a unique ICD9 diagnosis code. The insurance company can then base your treatment needs on that code and determine if they choose to reimburse or not reimburse, you or the doctor.
As of this date the old ICD9 and its 14000 codes is replaced by the new ICD10 and its 78000 codes. The why, has yet to be established.
Determining your new code that closely matches your old code or your new condition will take increased time. There will likely be several mistakes and returned claims due to improper coding. Point being, be a patient with patience. Give your doctor’s office a break during this time of transition. Hopefully, we will have it figured out before someone, that has never touched a patient, decides it is time for ICD11!
