You hear it over and over, "drink more water." You try and succeed for a time but then slack off and back to the old habits. This is an easy trick to maintain compliance.
USE A STRAW !
Just the act of having to lift the container and take your eyes off your work is enough for you to subconsciously limit your intake. Another possibility is that if you have neck pain, extending your neck to drink from the bottle is enough to limit use.
I have found that patients using straws do best. You can get the bio friendly bottles with straws included, you can keep a collection of straws from various outlets to keep in desk drawers.
