FALL FREQUENCY ON THE RISE - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT

A recent article in the NYT told about the rising rate of falls and injury associated with the "elderly" population.  The article goes on to explain several methods to help reduce the risk.  Exercise being one of the more workable choices to reduce your chances of falling.

These are positive choices, however, it is too late.  Exercise that is begun later in life is much better than no exercise.  Exercise begun in your teens or twenties and continued throughout your life into your seventies and eighties will go much further in reducing your risk of falls.  The balance and strength and ability to change direction and manage different surfaces is what can become instinctive if you persist in a lifetime sport.

Therefore, hiking, tennis, golf, swimming etc. are all good endeavors that you can continue throughout life.  Your abilities in these activities will carry over into your daily life.  The hope is that the trip over a crack in the sidewalk will become an insignificant stumble verses a life changing event.

Start exercising and continue...……………………………………..
