TEXT NECK

Text Neck Explained by Dr. Askanasi

This is a relatively new category of chronic neck pain.  It all relates to “physics” and anatomy.  We have 7 vertebrae that compose our necks.  On a side note a giraffe also has 7 vertebrae in the neck!

As the image shows the more forward flexed your neck is the more your head weighs on the joints causing pain and injury, usually of the chronic type.  Persistence will establish the problem and lead to many other musculoskeletal issues.

Laws of physics can not be broken.  Therefore, if you persist in keeping 20 plus degrees of flexion while texting you will create the problem.

How to Reduce Your Risk of Text Neck

Solution:  keep the device elevated which will reduce flexion, if at a table keep elbows on the table and keep the device closer to eye level.
