Muscular Balance

What activities hinder muscular balance?

Gym based machines, stair climber (making a comeback in gyms of recent), treadmills, elliptical and stationary cycles to name a few will hinder your muscular balance.  Why?  You are doing the same action over and over again.  Same angle, same plant same force.  Even if you can adjust tension or level of intensity or incline.

When you run, walk or cycle outdoors, the terrain changes, the light, wind and weather will all work to force changes in muscle action, by the stride. You also must propel yourself which requires much more muscle action and increased ability of balance amongst muscle groups. Whenever possible I recommend running, cycling or walking outdoors over indoor machines.  They are not the same, at all.
